Hay Infusion Critters

Post by PeglegOS »

There are two different species in the photo. The lower left critter appears to be dead, it didn't move. The upper one was flitting all about and was hard to photograph.

Rotifers, perhaps. Poke through the videos at http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/moviegallery/pondscum.html and see what looks familiar.

Iwas leaning toward the Lepadella also. It was really facinating watching these guys swim. They kinda spiraled through the water. Really quite beautiful to watch. There was many of them and some other species as well.

Hay Infusions are worth the effort for sure. I just got some hay from our buildings Halloween display. I put it in a jar with some boiled water. After the water cooled, I added some water from my aquarium. Waited a week and had my critters.
