4mm spider

Post by fmarek »

I have upgraded my gear a bit - moved from Sony A350 to Sony A700, have added a set of Kenko tubes to my SAL100M28 and HVL-F58AM flash unit. Read some articles about macro work and found CombineZM software in the Internet

Here is the results:

A field-shot stack with a live tiny spider? Very nice!

Actually I accommodated it into transparent plastic box from a lens filter, then put the box onto orange paper and spent nearly an hour before managed to take more or less clear set of frames... Spiders moves so fast even in the box... :)

OK, so it was a spider in a box -- it's still impressive.

By the way, from my standpoint this image is clearly good enough to be posted up in the regular image galleries, Technical and Studio Photography -- Macro and Close-up. It seems out of place down here in Beginners Macro.

Would it be OK with you if I moved it?

PS. The second image is broken for me.

Please move it if you find image good enough for regular macro section. Thanks for comments!

Ah well 4mm is a small spider. It may come under the group of spiders we call Money spiders or Sheet Weavers.(Linyphiidae)
All very hard to ID without a microscope though I'll have a look in my ID book......
One possibility is Drapetisca socialis, female 3.2-4mm
http://www.teknofokus.fi/Luonto/Araneid ... daeA01.htm

Another possibility is Atea sturmi

http://images.google.co.uk/images?sourc ... tea+sturmi

But spiders are really very variable and can be very hard to ID, also there is often considerable sexual dimorphism, and often the book will show only the male or female which doesnt help!
