UV fluorescent crystals

Post by Jbailey »

These photos are of some Halite "salt" crystals I grew many years ago. Most of the crystals are about 1cm. square. I added trace amounts of Manganese and Lead ions to the solution to replicate the fluorescent characterics of natural Halite specimens occuring in the Salton Sea in California.

The first photo is by regular room light.

The second photo is the same specimen lit by a short-wave UV lamp.
Unfortunately, This shot had to be made at ISO 1000. The exposure was still some 20 seconds.
