Charaxes candiope, wing pattern

Post by Charles Krebs »

This is not as "tidy" looking a specimen as the last couple wing shots I've posted, but the green veins make for interesting patterns.

It is also taken at a more "modest" magnification... a reversed 50/2.8 El Nikkor on bellows. Probably in the vicinity of 5X on camera sensor. 7 shots at f4, stacked with Helicon Focus.

Charlie,
I have Thomas C. Emmel's book 'Butterflies' on the desk and I'm reading about Charaxes candiope.

It's wonderful to see one at this magnification. Beautiful colour palette and arrangement.

Here is a link to the butterfly (a long shot) for those who are interested. Image 3 shows us the underside.

Craig,

Thanks for the link.

Here's another overall shot of a specimen in the field. If you look carefully you can see where this section I've photographed is located.

What a crazy palate of colors nature paints with sometimes. Excellent photo Charles.
