So different, both beetles
I read somewhere in a bookintroduction from an apparently famous professor entomologist whose name I forgot of course (quote translated): "If a God exist, God must have a special love for beetlespecies, as he made 100000s of 'em!"

Oh that's one of the best C. Granulatus images I've seen!! They're so difficult to get, always running around and active and always somewhere in the thicket - well captured!!emkraak wrote: ↑Fri May 16, 2025 9:37 amI read somewhere in a bookintroduction from an apparently famous professor entomologist whose name I forgot of course (quote translated): "If a God exist, God must have a special love for beetlespecies, as he made 100000s of 'em!"

The differences are really interesting, kind of like the differences between mammals (for example bats vs giraffes)

If I remember well this sentence is attributed to Richard Dawkins

Shall we remain polite to the other forum members and not speak Dutch among us?

Very nice.
The quote is from the British biologist J.B.S. Haldane. Although it may be only a rumor, it is said to have played out like this:
J.B.S. Haldane was with a group of church-goers, where he was asked what could be concluded about the nature of the Creator based on a study of His creation? Haldane is said to have answered: “An inordinate fondness for beetles.”
