The illustrations are incredible and the text contains some amazing stuff on evolution, continental drift, the moon, and all sorts of other discussions both about microscopy and all manner of other subjects. The text is of course in 17th century English, but not too difficult to read. There are several biographies of Hooke around. I read The Man Who Knew Too Much by Stephen Inwood, which was excellent. There is also a one man play which has been touring the UK, called Hanging Hooke. I don't know whetehr they are still touring, but I found it absolutely rivetting. Get to see it if you can. A CD ROM of Micrographia is available from Savona Books at http://www.savonabooks.free-online.co.uk/ Look under Data CDs, cat. no. M5. See also http://www.roberthooke.org.uk/micro1.htm and Project Gutenberg at http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/15491

Hooke is definitely one of my heroes!

Though we lean upon the same balustrade, the colours of the mountain are different.

The CD-Rom is available through amazon.com, and I assume through amazon.co.uk. I've thought about getting it, even though I'm not into microscopy. His work seems awesome, and I am into the history side of things quite a bit.

Worry about the image that comes out of the box, rather than the box itself.
