Don't forget that it will also have lower resolution due to longer wavelength.

He could use an IR blocking filter to fix that, though this defeats the purpose of such a lens...

He was talking about using IR illumination, so will be proportionally lower rez.

Short answer: Yes. Of course you can mount it and get pictures.

Longer: It's NIR optimised, not optimised for visible light, so CA in the visible spectrum is likely not considered when designing the lens. It's also a lot more expensive, why would one want to use it for something it's clearly not designed for? Got a cheap used one? Still, it's not suitable for the application you desire.
