I especially enjoy the butterfly scales. These are my standard test subjects in optical microphotography lens tests. It is nice to see what they really look like!

This last image is pleasing to the eye at first glance.

But I find that it's much enjoyable to keep looking at, if I pull it into Photoshop and convert it to grayscale.

That way I can concentrate on the anatomical forms and textures instead of being distracted by the bold but meaningless colors.

In the earlier images, the colors were more subdued and seem more related to the structures being shown. In those the colors are both pleasant and helpful, or at least not harmful. For example I much prefer the image at https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1943/304 ... 412b_b.jpg in its colored form.

Impressive detail!. Do you have to "coat " your specimens?
In terms of colours, I prefer something subtle and structured.
