Is this Sicus ferrugeneus?

Post by Beatsy »

I found this forgotten specimen in a sample jar at the back of a freezer drawer. It's been there for at least a year, possibly two. I didn't try straightening the legs as I assumed they'd be dry and brittle by now. After sticking it (rather poorly) to the pin, I found the legs could be moved after all, but didn't want to push my luck and knock it off the tenuous mount (the pin point was only glued to the side of the insect, not stuck in it). It's in a pretty good state, considering, although the wing on the far side is withered along the bottom edge.

Anyway - it looks like it has some interesting bits for higher magnification, so I'll have a go at those tomorrow. In the meantime, is the ID correct? The insect is approx 15mm long. Thanks
