Hello everybody,

Enclosed you will find some problems that occurred during the taking of the photographs
of the eyes of the insects e.g. mirroring, reflections, discoloration, decay.

Mostly the microscope lens is reflected / mirrored in the big eyes of a spider or true bug.
Sometimes the color of the decayed eyes is being changed e.g. of a dung beetle from black to yellow.
The compound eye of a fly looks like some hexagon nuts.

1.) Mirroring

Spider

True bug

Ladybug

2.) Reflections

Fly

Cicada

Moth

3.) Decay

Dung beetle

4.) Hexagon nuts
Fly

5.) Discolor

Wasp (discolored by the background)

Those are gorgeous photos anyway. What did you use for the higher-m shots?

Thank you. Those Olympus MSPlan 50x objectives are surprisingly cheap! I should get one.

Hi Lou,
Yes, my MSPlan 50x /0.55 ULWD was very cheap :-)
But its problem is CA which I remove with LR during the conversion from RAW into the TIFF.
Sometimes I use the following method:

Ah, I remember that thread....Judging from the pictures, I had thought your lens was free of CA, so I bought it just before reading that last note of yours. Oops. Anyway it will be good to learn that method of removing CAs. Thanks for reminding us of it.

And now I remember why it has CA. It is not one of the newer Oly objectives, so it needs eyepiece correction of CA.

Hi Lou,
The LU Plans are not really better than the MSPlan :-)
I don’t have any lens without CA Sad

Hi Beatsy,
The biggest two problems are: the reflection of the lens and the hexagon nuts, I think.
They are not easy to remove Sad
