First, I want to go on record that "Salamander Hatchlings" would be a great name for a rock band.
Back story -
Did a pond dip in a fairly dark fern forest and in a pool I saw several clumps of gelatinous egg masses. I took the smallest, jarred it and put it on my windowsill at home. After a few days, slender tadpole-like bodies started to accumulate on the bottom of the jar, which is what you see here.
I suspect that the warm temperatures in the jar on the windowsill was the cause of their demise.
These specimens spent about 10 days in 10% Formalin before I got around to this shoot.
