Radiolaria shells fluorescence

Post by Pau »

Playing with some antique slides I've found that some microfossils do fluoresce under UV.
They are Policistina shells from Barbados in a dry glass covered mount

UV 365nm LED; AT350/50x (EX) // T400lp (BS) // ET425lp (EM) filter set; Pl Fluotar 10/0.30

From a scientific view point, it has to be in the DNA for such intricate and beautiful structure to be formed. Super! :D

How did you get the fluorescence and the natural colors to both come out perfectly exposed?

Thanks all :D

There isn't any other kind of illumination, the natural colors also come from fluorescence, both of the specimens themselves or reflected from their more fluorescent neighbors. What I've done is to stack 16bit TIFFs from RAW with extended dynamic range (Pmax UDR) and later playing with levels in PS, maybe a bit overdone as it looks somewhat flat.
