Our privet hedge is in flower and on a warm day is filled with buzzing. These are some of our new bees - Buckfast strain - which are much more yellow on the abdominal segments than my previous posts of Carniolian bees. What I find odd is that they seemed to carry pollen all down their legs rather than collecting it in their pollen baskets. I am not sure if this is a property of the privet pollen or the different strain of bees. Bumble bees and drone flies on the hedge are also covered in pollen - is privet pollen particularly sticky?
I need to try the flying bees again - they are very quick and difficult to get in focus. All natural light with Nikon 3300 and Sigma 105mm Macro lens
