First signs of spring

Post by Joco »

Even if a cold period is expected later this week, spring will come!

Lovely image. The stacking and stitching gives it a convincing medium-format look too. Very nice.

Thanks Beatsy,

Using these tools (soft- and hardware) takes time and practice, but it is rewarding.

Very nice. I really like these intimate small landscapes.

Are you shifting the camera, with the lens fixed, or are you shifting the lens and keeping the camera fixed, or moving the whole thing using a nodal rail? In the out-of-focus background it looks like some items may be doubled or ghosted, but maybe it is just coincidence, or due to wind. If it is not due to wind moving things between stacks, it could perhaps be avoided by keeping the lens fixed and shifting the camera, if your lens has big enough coverage. That's what I do and it works well.

Nice work. Image looks great.
I'm in Canada! Isn't that weird?

Thanks Lou and abpho,

In this setup the lens is fixed and the camera shifts. The lens appears to have plenty of coverage for the 10mm shift left and right (44mm).

There are some odd patterns in the background, but I checked and they are present in each single shot (of a stack, which then was stitched). So they are 'natural'.

Btw one of the nice things about stacking is the ability to select the nicest background from a series and paint it in :-)

Hoping to go out and make more this weekend :-)

Perhaps of interest is that this was taken with a tripod's centre column reversed. This way I can get closest to the ground. Having the camera and bellows upside down is not ideal but surprisingly doable.

Very nice pic! Do you guys think the Proshift+ functionality can be replicated with the shift function of the Nikon PB-4 bellows? (for this particular application)

No, the wrong end moves unless you reverse it. You'd want the entrance pupil to stay stationary, I think?
It would be cheaper and more flexible to buy a cheap bellows unit and cut through the rail, so you can put the ends where you want.
