Substitute for the resolution test slide 3000

Post by Adalbert »

Hello everyone,
I have been looking for the substitute for the resolution test slide 3000 and have collected the following ideas up to now:
- Millimeter paper
- Banknotes
- Display of the smartphone
- CD, DVD, Blu-ray
- Cheap slides like that :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microscope-Eyep ... Sw3ydVsbTm

Does anybody know other objects which could be used for the measuring of the resolution?
Cheap common items everyone has, and the photographs of them should be comparable.
I’m asking about that because I would like to define an approach in order to compare the resolution of the optical setups of the different users.

Thank you in advance.

Butterfly wing scales and diatom (test slides) are good "natural"measures of old.

That's in interesting slide Adi. I feel that I'm missing some understanding on what the numbers mean :?

I think something flat would be preferable as a universal standard. With things like butterfly wings, the lighting makes so much difference.

Hi,

I purchased a very inexpensive 1um diffraction grating:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pack-of-10-Diff ... SwcUBYGOBR

and I can resolve the 1 um spaced lines with my 60X Apo air quite clearly. The contrast is not fantastic but they appear to be a very inexpensive tool for 1um resolution tests.

Hello everybody,

Many thanks for the hints!

So, I have already ordered two holographic slides ( 500 and 1000 ) and the following test:

It does look pretty useful. They ship to the UK and I'm going to get (at least) one. Happy to buy extras and forward at cost to the USA if it helps. I'll wait 24 hours before ordering. PM me if you want one.

Pm me. I'm buying a bunch and shipping them on to usa members at cost.

Pls notevall, this slide is only useful for epi work. It's a piece of a wafer glued to a glass slide. Covered in chip masks but with the test patterns in the centre.

I wanted to purchase one of these from the UK but when I try the BIN I am advised to contact the seller for postage/shipping.

But I haven't got a reply. Did ask in the German Language because ebay.de.

Anyone managed to proceed to Buy It Now?

I have also emailed them to ask for more information.

I just bought one - via their website. Go to http://www.bw-optik.de/mik.-zubehoer/te ... tpraeparat and you can order it to go to the USA too
My extreme-macro.co.uk site, a learning site. Your comments and input there would be gratefully appreciated.

I've also asked the fellow in German.
4 Euros to UK for one, 9 Euros for more.
Seems to be freundlich and hilfsbereit !
That's via Ebay.
---

NB order to UK via their web site was post free - that obviously saves their eBay fees

It's well worth poking around the rest of their http://www.bw-optik.de/ site, to see what equipment they handle. See the LEDxxx tabs for their pictures/ testimonies on replacement LED and Fluorescing light sources.

Nice find, Adi! :)

Now that Johan found this, my previous offer to buy and forward is probably redundant.

Given that - I will assume everyone who's contacted me already would prefer to buy direct and I will only order one for myself.

If you would still like me to buy one and forward it to you, please send me *another* PM to confirm you want this. I'll wait another 24 hours before ordering.

Cheers.
Beats.

Edit: actually - could you also drop me a PM to confirm if you're buying direct too. That way I'll be sure everyone has seen this post. Thanks

I just placed an order at bw-optik.de, using Google Chrome browser to take advantage of its auto-translate to English. The order went through postage-free for a total of €10.92, payment by PayPal.

The only oddity was that the shipping address got formatted as "Streetname 629" instead of the standard US format "629 Streetname". I was concerned that this might cause a hiccup at PayPal, but in fact no problem.

The product description at http://www.bw-optik.de/mik.-zubehoer/te ... tpraeparat has more pictures than are shown at eBay. Some of them are closeups that suggest this test slide is very good indeed, for example line width of 0.4 micron with spacing of 1.9 micron, combined with a wedge that tests even finer spacing. Here is a screen capture from their website:

If the product matches the illustrations, then this will be a really Really good deal.
