ADAPTERS for Nikon Microscope nosepiece

Post by Smokedaddy »

Looking for some adapters to mount my reversed 28mm Componon on my Nikon MM-11 nosepiece. I have the RafCamera M26x0.7 female to RMS male thread adapter (see attached image) so I don't need that so I am looking for the rest of the adapters. I figured someone here might have these somewhere collecting dust instead of me purchasing them on eBay.

From the microscope nosepiece is goes as follow:

1) (RMS hole in Nikon nosepiece)
2) RMS to Mitutoyo 26mm adapter
3) 26mm-30mm (step up adapter,
4) 30mm-49mm(step up adapter)
5) 49/49 reversing ring, "macro coupling ring" (male 49mm thread both sides)

Thanks,

It's not for sale (thought I'd say early)

but I have a dovetail ring, on a fattie 1x objective (which is too big for the turret so has to go "straight in").
I could get an adapter - dovetailed outer disc with an M42 female thread, made. It would be a useful thing for the MM lenses, too.
(I think it's large enough for M42, I'd better measure it!)).
Plain Alumin(i)um shouldn't cost much, especially if a few were made on a run.

It wouldn't be before Christmas!

Anyone interested?

I"m still not up to snuff on all the terminology here but is this what you're talking about?

I mentioned the possibility here:
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... 242#200242

and I thought someone said they'd tried a Rafcamera adapter and it didn't fit.
I don't know the size and mine's the other side of the room (meaning it would take a week to reach it...)

But if it measured right, I'd ask him - I guess he knows what hs parts fit :)
A female M42 thread would be more convenient
52mm female (if it would fit inside the arm), would be even better).

The nosepiece dovetail measures 43.7mm. I tried a RAF 43.5 to Zeiss 42mm adapter. Thedovetail had the wrong profile if that is the right technical description.

I found a spare turret I forgot I had. (That's handy, it has 4 Mplans on it).
I saw your post and remeasured, 43.96mm diameter, best I can measure.

The 4mm and 1mm are a bit of an eyeball-estimate holding near the step at the end of a vernier caliper. That would make it 54º. Could be 55 though - only 0.2mm different.

I didn't purchase one of those, I was simply asking if that is what you were talking about since I'm struggling with all the nomenclature which is new to me. Suppose I should of been clearer. The 'dovetail' on the 'bottom' of my Nikon MM-11, where the dovetail on my Nikon nosepiece attaches measures 43.96mm, so no that wouldn't fit. The 'top' dovetail where I mounted my 50D measures approximately 48.5mm.

I agree on those profile measurements. Probably getting OT, dunno, and should move this thread elsewhere.

Would something like this be acceptable (3D printed of course) with a nylon set screw like they use on some telescope accessories and occulars? Don't see why it wouldn't be acceptable.

Rafael (RafCamera) contacted me via email about the adapter in question for my Nikon MM-11 and said this;
BTW, I remember that I have 44mm dovetail adapters They are made with negative tolerances (actual DT diameter is 43.90-43.95mm)
Should fit you miscroscope, I think.

I don't think it would fit well, despite probably having the same end diameter the Zeiss dovetail is short, ending in a cylinder while the showed Nikon is a cone all the way...

I'm still going to give it a shot and print it today if I get time. BTW, the stock Nikon isn't coned or tapered, it's a straight shot through the backside (see picture below). Like I said, I don't see why it wouldn't work unless there's a Z distance length calculation I know nothing about.

Update: I stuck an objective in it and it seems to work fine to me. I didn't try a stack, just viewing. If I made a working one I'd make it a little shorter in the Z direction.

-----

I haven't drilled and tapped this yet for the set screw but it fits perfectly in the dovetail.
