Post by olivier barth »

Hi everybody,
two examples of big bacteria found in a new-build Winogradsky column.
the first one is likely Beggiatoa genus(tiny bright dots are sulfur),and the second perhap's a sulfur bacteria too,but for the moment,I cant' ID...
If you want to know a W.column is,there plenty of links on the web(sorry,my english is too bad to expain it...)
best regards.

The big spirochete may be S.plicatilis, the biggest of the spirochetes.it's often near Beggiatoa according to the book"a field guide to bacteria".
but I've found no description or picture on the web.very frustrating...
best regards

Yes, really grandiose...I wouldn't know such images would be possible using the 20 & 40 X objective. Thanks!
