I'm having these toubles, that is caused by probably poor lighting technique. Some parts of the object becomes overexposed, burnt after stacking. I also get that misty glow effect in pictures. Currently I'm experimenting with lightbox. Are there any methods (during production or postproduction) to avoid these problems? Some examples below:

First guess - is this Pmax? Try those areas with Dmap.
Pmax tends to make sparkles "flare".
If you're using Jpegs, then using Raw will help you control the highlights, but check the histogram carefully at several points in the subject before you run the stack.
Very reflective chitin and other surfaces are difficult - diffusion and very careful lighting are the main answers.
