Reversed lens plus extension tubes

Post by JP1422 »

Can anybody advise whether it is possible to use a 50mm reversed lens attached to extension tubes and if ok what magnification can I expect?

With a Schnieder Kreuznach 50mm F2.8(makro Iris) unreversed on my bellows I get a magnification range of 1.2-1 through 3.6-1. That particular lens only gets a very slight increase in magnification when reversed( using my set up). A minolta MC 50mm F3.5 performs similarly. Reversed, according to the manual, I am supposed to be able to get almost 4 Times magnification. However, I have found that the close working distance combined with the diametre of the rear of the lens ( minolta) makes lighting the subject difficult. I recently obtained a led microscope ring light and that has made the lighting much easier

I use a bellows but extension tubes will do the same job I would expect you will need more than one set of tubes as the maximum extension on my bellows is 190mm.
Still learning,
