Fluorescent phalloidins (actin markers) have huge penetration issues; the organisms have to be partially "opened" and incubation times of days are usually necessary.
In the second sample I was trying to visualize the nervous system (Acetylated tubulin is a great axonal marker, usually). Instead I labeled muscle attachment sites. D'oh...
Marine amphipod - Calc. White (cuticle), Texas Red-phalloidin (muscles). 10x NA 0.45
Fresh-water copepod - Calc. White (cuticle), Alexa-488-phalloidin (muscles), acetylated tubulin (immuno-staining, red). 10x NA 0.45
Aquatic crustaceans - cuticle + muscles
