A Masked hunter that wants it all!

Post by orionmystery »

I think it's a masked hunter (Reduvius personatus?) but this is my first time seeing one with not just dirt/debris on its body. Many of them too on a tree trunk but this one takes the cake - moss, ant carcasses, dirt/debris, you name it - this masked hunter(?) has it all :D. Oh, I forget to mention the roach ootheca! Reminds me of Acanthaspis petax with just ant carcasses but no dirt/debris on the abdomen. But this could be an Acanthaspis too? Not sure. Anyone can shed light on this?

Dirt/debris, ant carcasses, moss, and an empty roach ootheca...LOL

Previous masked hunter I have found has only dirt/debris, no ant carcasses

Previous Acanthaspis petax I have found: only ant carcasses. This one has an ant prey too!

Very beautiful photographs of one of the strangest insects I've ever seen!

Very beautiful shots. I'm mostly a plant and flower person but since looking at everyone's work here I've never seen so many creatures in one place. These Masked Hunters remind me of the "Reavers" on Firefly.
