Two days ago I found in the plankton an interesting diatom: Helicotheca tamesis (syn. Streptotheca tamesis). It is ribbon-like torted. One cell measured 100µm x 90 µm.

- beautiful pictures...I think perhaps the best and most informative photos of this species on the web.

The 3D effect that you have achieved with DIC in the second photo really is exceptional.
