NEW Nikon 10X M Plan MI Microscope Objective

NEW Nikon 10X M Plan MI Microscope Objective

What is it? It's a 10X Nikon CF M 210/0, finite objective.

There are a couple of these available on eBay. Item #: 280449535322

Below is an image of one such objective that I have in my kit.

Craig,

as written in the Auction text, this Nikon 10X M Plan MI- is a Michelson Interference Objective. This objective is used in interferometry.
As far as I remember, the experienced seller "loswah" had been posting in other forums.
He answered me, I do not have a copy anymore, that this lens is for measuring (contact-measuring) and therefore has NO working distance (whatever this means ...). I do not know, if we could use this finite lens on a bellows

Hi Christian,

When not used for 'contact measuring' the WD for this objective @ 210 is 12mm.

Craig,

thankyou for explaination. Have you measured the WD yourself? So it looks it could be usefull. Have you tested yours already? Would you buy one again ?

Thankyou for another response :P

Christian,

Yes, I have it connected to the bellows.

I've had this objective for some time and had initially forgotten the actual WD measurement; so I measured again = 12mm.

Craig, thankyou very much for the impressive Image (do you remember the enlarging factor (= 10x ?) What kind of butterfly is this?

Will the lens cover a full-frame Nikon D700? So, in comparison to the M Plan 10x/0,25, which I got now - do you think a reasonable difference concerning the resolution, as this has the same aperture...?

Thankyou again!

I am unable to answer that question; but I am sure someone else will do the numbers.

The butterfly is a Blue Mountain Swallowtail Papilio ulysses at 10x.

I don't have a Nikon M Plan 10x/0,25, so can't compare; but I expect you will be very satisfied with the objective you currently own. I have the (CF) M Plan 5x/0.1, 20x/0.4 ELWD, 40x/0.5 ELWD.
The MI multiple beam (Tolansky) objectives provide higher measuring accuracy, down to 1/100 of the wavelength (approximately 5nm with 540 IF Narrow band filter), due to their sharper fringes.
I don't fully comprehend what the above information is saying but it would be an interesting exercise to see if there are any advantages using the Nikon 10X M Plan MI.

What about CA correction for this one? I know, there's a sample image but hard to know exactly what to look for. The new Nikon conjugate one from Edmund is out of stock till August. Another one I'm looking at is an infinity CF Plan 10x 0.30 EPI WD 16.5mm to try on a tele lens. I'd rather go with 0.30 NA since I'll be stretching it to more like 15x to fill a full frame sensor. Wow is it ever complicated shopping for these things!

Looking at Craig's larger picture, if I didn't have two good Nikon 10x objectives already I'd snap one of these up. If someone else doesn't soon I might anyway!

Are you looking at a different ad than I am? The one in front of me right now says Buy It Now for $249.99. That's pretty expensive for a 10X 0.25 objective for general use. I notice that the auction number is unchanged from Craig's original posting, now about 5 weeks ago. Apparently they haven't been selling well...

Paul,
I haven't noticed any CA or radial smearing.

I've seen the price for this objective expand and contract over the course of two years.

I purchased mine for $99.00 just before the price went up to USD$607. It seems to have settled at $249.00.

The Nikon container has the following details:
"903-79102 CF PLAN MI 10X - DISCONTINUED"
