Can you name the Insect family this belongs to?

Post by Moebius »

Buried in one of my photo gallery threads:

http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... .php?t=891,

Near the bottom of the page I have two photos of a strange critter I shot down in Peru. Before I state what it is, I thought it might be interesting if even a general id could be guessed based on the appearance of this insect. Again, it is about 3 inches long (head to end of wing is about 2 inches).

I found the id down in a book in Peru and remember it's name, but have been unable so far to find a link to it on the internet.

Any guesses?

Looks like some kind of plume moth or cinnabar moth, but in Peru, hmmmm?
