Winter in Eastern Canada

Post by NikonUser »

Just back from a walk around a local lake but the solitude was broken by a work crew clearing a part of the lake for skating. The pile of snow on the left is over 2 m high and should come in handy this summer for keeping the beer cool.
The forest here is mostly Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus). From 1766 until 1811 all the large white pine (>24" diam) were deemed to be the property of the King (of England) and were reserved for the Royal Navy as ship's masts.

Quote – Holmes on ‘Entomology’
” I suppose you are an entomologist ? “
” Not quite so ambitious as that, sir. I should like to put my eyes on the individual entitled to that name.
No man can be truly called an entomologist,
sir; the subject is too vast for any single human intelligence to grasp.”

You know, I bet that looked a whole lot nicer before what ever it was ran across and around the lake and messed up the snow but ice skating sure sounds like fun and that is a pretty good sized lake to be frozen over for to skate on. Well anyway, still a beautiful photo, maybe you can show us what it looks like after they get it cleared and there are people out there busting their "buns" on the ice, that would be interesting too. :D
