I feel somewhat of a Luddite here where many of you have switched to infinity optics. Constantly having to convince myself that I don't need to switch from my finites.
So it is always nice to see a subject taken with an infinity lens that I can reasonably compare with a similar subject taken with my finite.
Case in point is the recent face of an ant Lasius niger taken with a 10x Nikon CFI (scroll down page : viewtopic.php?f=8&t=35350).
That image was a 97 stack with Zerene DMap; my image below is a 101 stack with Zerene PMax.
My objective was designed to be used with a coverslip, was used for this image without a coverslip.
The ant: some question whether we have Lasius niger (the PMG ant I am comparing) in NA, this is Lasius neoniger, named for its similarity to the European species.
My conclusion: I would get little benefit for web-based images by switching to CFI's. Grooves on the mandibles are a little sharper with the CFI

” I suppose you are an entomologist ? “
” Not quite so ambitious as that, sir. I should like to put my eyes on the individual entitled to that name.
No man can be truly called an entomologist,
sir; the subject is too vast for any single human intelligence to grasp.”
