Porcelain Crab Zoea stage

This is the the planktonic Zoea larval stage in the development of the Porcelain crab - Pisidia longicornis. It's just over 7mm from tip to tip.

They are definitely rather bizarre looking, at least it’s only one stage of the larval development that they have this inbuilt social-distancing feature. I can only assume it protects them from predators but they do have an issue turning around in confined spaces.
