A Wildlife Story - VAMPIRE Spiders attacking BAT

Post by fisheyeadventures »

Hey everyone,

Weird spider look-alike creatures feast on bat's blood. Last week I discovered a lot of bats in our lodge in the primary forest of madagascar / masoala. After getting closer, trying to take some macro photos I discovered creepy parasatic bat flies sitting on their faces ... and colourful geckos;)

How cool is that!
That spider structure looks rather fortified

The title is somewhat misleading. As revealed in the linked video these blood sucking creatures are not spiders at all. They are flies belonging to the insects.

I appreciate your efforts to create interest in the subject. But it is very easy to confuse people without fundamental understanding of the systematics. With their 6 legs and a clearly segmented abdomen these flies are not really spider look-alikes.
