Interesting article there Graham. Though I am familiar with diodes I seldom consider LED's or how they work in electrical circuits, let alone how something similiar could possibly work in nature. Thanks for adding to my education, again an interesting article.

Excellent article. It is always fun to read how much sophisticated physics people are finding in insect anatomy. (Another use of photonic crystals in butterfly wings, in this case.)
