Interesting article there Graham. Though I am familiar with diodes I seldom consider LED's or how they work in electrical circuits, let alone how something similiar could possibly work in nature. Thanks for adding to my education, again an interesting article. :D

Excellent article. It is always fun to read how much sophisticated physics people are finding in insect anatomy. (Another use of photonic crystals in butterfly wings, in this case.)
