Jumping spider with fly (image & link added)

Post by rjlittlefield »

My kitchen occasionally provides wildlife viewing. Here I was mostly happy that the spider took care of this annoying fly for me, and a bit amused by wondering if the spider's eyes are bigger than its belly. (Probably not!)

Canon T1i with Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS macro lens at 1:1, nominal f/10, 1/200 second at ISO 800. On-camera flash, diffused by a notecard held by hand at the end of the lens. The shot is rotated 90 degrees clockwise to avoid vertigo -- the critter was actually head-down in the corner between a wall and the upper set of some wood cabinets. Meanwhile I was standing on a ladder with not much to brace against. Lack of motion blur is solely a credit to flash exposure.

Impressive focus and sharpness in its little face!
The trouble with quick and dirty is that the dirty remains after the quick is gone.
