BTW, there's no problem with the second shot. The forum is named "Macro and Close-up" to give some leeway for situations like this. There's no brightline criterion for what's acceptable, but historically we've been pretty tolerant of anything with a subject frame under 6" wide, except for commonly (over-)worked subjects like hummingbirds and faces of babies. Smaller is better of course. This image strikes me as being more in the 3" range so that's a comfortable fit.
