Hello,
I'm a newbie to macro, starting about a half-year ago. I've been working on gear, technique, and light, as time and budget permits. I already had basic skills I developed in astrophotography and time-lapse photography. Here are a couple of my recent macro examples.

One of the side effects of this hobby is that I've become interested in entomology and have started a collection of the common local insect fauna, to the disconcertion of my wife. One thing I've learned collecting specimens, is that we are never alone. Insects are everywhere. You just have to develop a "bug eye." I try to educate myself about the local insect populations so that I don't collect something that is critical. Its such a challenge since there are so many different families, much less individual species.

Thanks! Ring flash and a couple of work lights using off-the-self LED bulbs (25 watts, I think, at about 5000K) with a DIY diffuser made from a large white plastic funnel I bought from a homebrew beer store. Its quite the contraption.brentbristol wrote:Beautiful and finely detailed. What lighting are you using?
