how on earth did you manage to capture the first shot, never seen that before.

The spider eye reveals remarkably soft edges on the illumination.

Have you shown us your lighting setup somewhere? If not, would you be willing to do that?

The nymphs can be a quiz for school kids!
I noticed the unusually nice eye reflections too - diffuser's working well :)

Thank you, grgh, Mike, Lou, Rik and Chris for the kind comments. Much appreciated :)

The nymphs in #1 are apparently Psyllids (planthopper). Was fascinating to watch those bubble butts :D


Rik - I've learnt so much from the open sharing of knowledge, including this awesome forum. Always glad to pay it forward (the only way to be thankful) :)

Here's the basic layout...the first stage to "diffuse and spread" light and the second "shield/concave diffuser" to catch the light to direct it around the subject. The ideal subject location would be in between the virtual "dome"

Chris - Pretty happy with the way this is working out, it goes through some tuning from time-to-time
