I'm not familiar with "double immersion". Can you say more?

Just meant both condenser and objective oiled to the slide.

I have an Auliscus in a prepared slide and can't get any close
Now I'm ready to trow away my microscope and search a new hobby

It's time for violet light and a cooled monochrome camera.....hehehe

I did intend to use 405nm violet (no need for a cooled camera), but the experimental, prototype mountant I used turned out to be utterly opaque to violet (and cuts blue a bit too), hence white light for this one. The mountant has a higher R.I. than zrax but along with a few issues too. Great for high contrast in hi-res images though. The mountant was made by someone else, not me, so I'll leave them to comment further if they choose to.

Thanks to everyone else for your comments too.

Rik - sorry to say I deleted all the RAWs once I'd stacked the picture. It was just a test of the mountant really. I could shoot it again I guess, but perhaps you'll accept this one as a consolation. Same gear but a thicker diatom (75 micron FoV, 90-image stack) hence the extra in-focus crud. Image

A monochrome camera would be useful when using violet light, because it would have four active pixels where a Bayer-matrix sensor would have only two (and the red one might be noisy). Edit: Ah-- but you probably use pixel-shifting, which fixes that ....
