Fresh water invertebrates

Post by Robert Berdan »

I am embedding a variety of microorganisms some identified and others I could use some help.

Fig 1. Eudorina elegans made up of 32 cells note the flagella - DIC microscopy about 400X
Fig 2. Volvox sp. DIC microscopy about 100X. The orange spheres are daughter colonies
Fig 3. Volvox sp. viewed by a combination of Dark-field and DIC microscopy about 150X
Fig 4. Flatworm Class Turbellaria – resembles Dalyellia sp. 25X Dark-field
Fig 5. Ciliate Subclass Hypotrichia – Phase contrast microscopy

Beatiful photos!
I bet that the 4th one is Mesostoma sp. (round shaped pharynx - see between the first pair of eggs, and an orange oval of bursa copulatrix between the second pair). Definitely it is not Dalyellia.

Hello Robert,

I think the orange spheres of fig 2 are the result of sexual reproduction. Fertilised eggs with a double membrane.
A nice image, much nicer than daughter colonies in my opinion.
