Hi - I have been visiting ponds a lot this summer and would like to share some photographs of rotifers taken with my DIC microscope. I have also posted an article about Rotifers for those that might like to read more about their biology. http://www.canadiannaturephotographer.com/rotifers.html
I used a Nikon D500 camera body attached to my Zeiss Axioscope, with 10, 20 and 40X plan acrhomat objectives, images were processed in Photoshop and I used free software Digicam control to capture the images to my computer. With some of the images I stacked 4-10 images to increase the depth of field.
There is lots of neat stuff to photograph in the ponds right now - I encountered a Stentor bloom with literally thousands of them in my Petri dish of pond water.
Euchlanis dilatata
Squatinella rostrum
Testudinella patina - nicknamed "Turtle Rotifer"
Platyias quadricornis
Lecane sp?
Lepadella ovalis
