dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans

Post by Charles Krebs »

Last time I used my plankton net there were a great many Noctiluca present. There can be very dense "blooms" of these creatures in Puget Sound (and in many areas worldwide). They also emit a soft blue bioluminescence when the water is disturbed.
