I have only been using Nikon Speedlight flash but today i bought some Ikea Jansjö light and man this things rules so easy to see what lights gonna be like before you do a stack session. On the downside you get longer exposures but nothing thats really an issue for the kind of macro i do.
Chrysididae. 60 exposures mixed in Zerene Stacker. Nikon d7200, sigma 105, raynox msn 202, 2 x Ikea Jansjö light with plastic cup diffuser, wemacro 40um
Chrysididae. 64 exposures mixed in Zerene Stacker. Nikon d7200, sigma 105, raynox DCR 250, 2 x Ikea Jansjö light with plastic cup diffuser, wemacro 50um
Chrysops relictu. 80 exposures stacked in Zerene Stacker. Nikon d7200, sigma 105, Raynox msn 202, wemacro rail 50 um, Jansjö ikea light and 2 nikon flash.

That works. Use styrofoam cups all the time, they work great and are available in many different sizes. If you diffuse them with a small light tent then you get really even lighting, but you loose lots of light too
Nice work.
