Mossy meiosis

Post by leonardturner »

Growing on the constantly-wet part of an old concrete fountain, a gaggle of sporophytes backlit by the late afternoon sun posed a challenge because of their swaying in a gentle breeze. A few were brought inside for the second and third images; some have popped their caps in aid of dispersing spores.

I learned something new of the power of Zerene during the exercise; in an attempt at a fourth image, the seta of the sporophyte rotated considerably while shooting about 160 images for a stack; I would estimate in the neighborhood of 40 degrees, not noticed at the time but quite apparent in the series of images viewed as a sequence. I ran it anyway and found it to be surprisingly good, not the train wreck expected.
