Thanks Rik ! Looks like bottom line is - balance between vignetting and aberrations. _________________ Saul

Thanks Rik, sorry for the late reply !
So, only way to check aberrations - make tests at the different distances between objective and tube lens ? _________________ Saul

Small improvement to my Labophot stacking base - I got it without the light, had to use Jansjo through the back opening. Few cheap ebay parts - 10W led 272389345999 , heatsink 182195476144 & LED dimmer 282671724717 - now I have a comfort adjusting background brightness

Are you happy with the spectrum of the LED? _________________ Chris R |

Did not try yet, fresh update . Should I look for the better CRI ? It is just for the background illumination ... _________________ Saul

I was thinking of doing the same, but getting it machined.
Is the thread itself 3D-printable? _________________ Chris R |

With my colleague's 3D printer - no
And even with the great printer I wouldn't do it - to press in+ glue M42 extension ring is cheaper/faster solution.
Machining - later option (if needed), after all beta testing _________________ Saul

... just my opinion, I wouldn't expect great results with M42x1 threads with any FDM printer. For that sort of thing you would need something like the Ember SLA/DLP resin printer (only about $8,000 plus the expensive resins). <g> Like Saul said simply gluing that puppy on is super simple. |

OK, next step - to attach to the my existing setup
With 3D printed dovetail adapter for the tube lens/infinity objective
...and the turret version. I can use this setup with infinity objective also by placing back Reichert tube lens to the trinocular head
It is little bit overkill to have two focus assemblies in one setup....
Most probably it will be useful to use Double Flange Long High-Cycle Linear Bearing with Brake Holes instead aluminum back plate for the Optiphot focus block - something similar to https://8020.net/shop/6536.html in order to have lower profile than my previous sliding head+focus block combination.
Previous version:
BTW, my Labophot base stage does not have slide holder, so there is 3D printed solution:
Now it is much more easier to place different diffusers, screens, scrims, etc. _________________ Saul
