Polarised Citric acid

Post by micro_pix »

Here are a few photos of my first attempt at photographing crystals with polarised light. I used Citric Acid in water. It took an age to evaporate and when I put the slide under the microscope I could only find one crystal.

I looked at the image of it on the computer but it wasn't very interesting so I went back for another look and a whole crystal-scape was forming in front of my eyes!

Very nice! Thank you for sharing.

What objective magnification did you use for the first image? And was it shot without cover slip?

Hi,

Thanks for the comments. All of the images were with an Olympus 10X SPlan objective with no coverslip. They are all pretty much in scale with each other as there was very little cropping and no stacking.

All are nice, but I like the first one best.

Nice images. Crystals are a lot of fun, you can get caught up in one slide for a very long time!

Thanks Charles,

yes I was mesmerized, I think I was looking at the same slide for around 3 hours!

David.
