Well, if nothing else this technology should surely win some award for "most buzz". I think I've run into it in three different forums now, not counting the original SIGGRAPH presentation.
It's a clever algorithm for automatically picking parts of a picture that can be stretched, squashed, or hacked out altogether without bothering the human viewer too much.
This algorithm strikes me as being an incredibly useful tool for making pictures that look realistic while being wildly different from what was actually photographed.
One more strike against "seeing is believing".
The YouTube video is well worth watching.
