Hi guys, it's been a while. Anyway, my GF has a UTI. Sample through the microscope shows a large quantity of leukocytes and bacteria. Looks like some type of bacillus rod that will form chains. Test strips show nitrites which indicate a gram negative type. Of course we are off to the doctor, but out of curiosity can anyone help ID this bacillus rod?
Please excuse the pics, I still have much to learn about microphotography. Taken through an Omax with phase contrast kit, 40x objective and Pentax K-x.

Learjet,
ID is not possible without culture and biochemical tests. Most likely one of the many Enterobacteriaceae, most commonly E. coli. They will probably treat w/o culturing unless it's recurrent or persistent, so it's unlikely you will ever know for sure what it is. The upside is that usually works.
