Tiny Bug on My Myxomycetes

Post by Walter Piorkowski »

Image

Scale of frame 2.5mm horizontal
Canon 10D
Canon 20mm Macro on tubes @ f/5.6
Series of 79 images at .001 inch increments
Diffused fiber optic illumination
Combine ZM average and filter, Photoshop

This very tiny bug was walking around my sticky fresh myxos getting its feet stuck but never really eating anything. On second look it appears to have myxo on its mouth thing! It hung around for hours and eventually died of natural causes. Really! Maybe someone knows what it is. How about you Ken?

Very up close Walt. A beautiful photo. Looks like a newly hatched nymph of some kind of true bug.

Looks to be an aphid of some sort, though there is another little insect that looks just like them. I found something similar crawling around in the moss one day and happened to come across them on a site somewhere, can't remember now exactly where, but they are kin to the aphid. Great shot, didn't now myxos had these little creatures on them. Maybe it was just passing through. :D
