I will spend two weeks in and around Melbourne, Australia, in December. Any suggestions for locations for generic macro (both insects and flowers/plants) and wildlife in general (as long as it is reachable with max a 300 mm)?
I am mainly interested in places reachable with public transportation within/from Melbourne or organized day tours, since I will not drive.
Suggestions for Melbourne area?

I'm from Sydney, in Melbourne I would go to the Royal Botanic Gardens. I spent a day there with a friend from Argentina (a professor in agriculture) in 2013. Not sure about macro subjects specifically as this is a very new hobby for me, but such a natural place would have many opportunities.
The gardens are near the centre of the city (just 2km approx.) and there's public transport, no worries.
