Found some mosquito eggs and collected them. Photographed the eggs and then some of the newly hatched larvae.

I suppose this would be considered Rheinberg illumination. In this case it is simply a "darkfield stop" but I made it up with a very dark blue, slightly transparent center stop instead opaque lblack. The outer edge was clear. It was placed in one of the openings in my condenser turret. (Generally Rheinberg "filters" or "stops" make use of more widely varied colors: http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/tech ... nberg.html )

How did you get the oblique views?

The oblique views were done on the large stage of the MM-11 set-up. Initially I was going to do a "straight down" shot. I made a "ring" of petroleum jelly on a 2x3" slide. Put the eggs in the middle and added a few drops of water/glycerin mixture around them. The were not very interesting from that perspective so I gradually tilted the slide and was pleasantly surprised that the eggs stuck to the slide and I was able to get a few oblique angle shots.

Spectacular. The cluster of eggs reminds me of the clutch of "eggs" in the Alien movies. Of course given what they hatch out its not that far off....
