Hello Olympusman,

Nice picture.
This water flea is Picripleuroxus denticulatus. Came from North America to Europe last century.

Clado,
Thanks for the ID. What is your resource for identifying water fleas?

My main resource is a German book:
Die Haplopoda und Cladocera (ohne Bosminidae) Mitteleuropas.
Von Dietrich Flößner.
ISBN 90-5782-057-9

Danke,
I'm afraid my limited German that got me around Hamburg for a business meeting a few years ago couldn't handle a scientific text.

Hi Olympusman,
Is this done with your new 60x objective?

The new 60x objective is unusable. It is marked for a 0.17 cover slip thickness, but it cannot even clear that thickness. I may try it with a 0.11 cover slip which is not practical for my techniques or test it on a blood smear.
What has changed is that I was going through some various eyepieces I had and found one marked Ph 2.5 bit when I tested it before it was not parfocal with my eyepieces. Out of curiosity I set up the micrometer slide and slowly raised the eyepiece up and got parfocality and very good image quality. So I used black electrical tape to lock it into position and have been very happy with it.
