Desmid

Post by microthings »

I am fairly new to the microscope hobby, so i still have a lot to learn. Amazing photo's here in the forum! I hope i can improve like that in the future :)

Found my first microorganisms yesterday, one of them is a Desmid (I think)
Maybe someone can help me with a more specific name?

objective used 40x
2 photos stitched together.

Also some video's on my blog.

It's a Closterium, but many species look similar so it would be dificult for me to make a specific ID.

Hi microthings,

I'm pretty new at the hobby myself and can't ID very many organisms, but I know that Olympusman is correct. And yes, it is a Desmid. For some reason I find those little barium sulfate crystals in each end fun to watch as they jiggle around.

I'm sure you will enjoy exploring the world of micro-organisms and I know you will find the people here on this forum helpful in many ways.

Regards,
Bill

Thx everyone!
Olympusman, I'm happy with the extra info!
It's like billporter1456 said, very hard to name them as newbie.
I also like the jiggling things in the end :) i have it on video:

That's a lovely first image, microthings, and welcome to the adventure! You might improve your image a bit by setting your white balance on your camera to something more neutral, as your image has a green cast to it. A bit of image sharpening might help your image to pop a bit more as well. Keep up the good work =)

Thx for the advice and comments!

I've tried to edit it a bit more, maybe it's a bit too much now?
