Worm, larvae or leech? ID help please

Post by Beatsy »

Sorry if this is an "obvious" one but I've not seen it before and the usual Google searches haven't turned anything up. Any ID help appreciated.

From pond water. This 1mm long creature swam fairly sedately, nosing in and out of detritus. It seemed obvious which end was the head at first, but it was equally comfortable travelling either direction - so I'm not so sure now.

Note: the image is a composite of two separate shots of the same critter.

Thanks

Thank you! Now even more interesting as I've read they reproduce by cloning (splitting or budding). Looks like this one is in the process of the latter. Thanks again.
