Ptygura the rotifer of the big wheel

Post by carlos.uruguay »

Rotifers are small multicellular beings who live in all types of waters, including in moist soil.
This one that we see belongs to the genre Ptygura.
It makes to turn a big cilios wheel to attract its food.
In general, the rotiferos of this genre construct in a stage of its life a 'house' to live in it, because its body is soft.
This one prefers to be outdoors like partner of Stentor (the large ciliated that is next to it).
This rotifer measures about 0.7mm of length and we find it in a small fresh water lake and very contaminated called 'Lago del Parque Rodó' in Montevideo - Uruguay
Polarized oblique light.
Objectives 10X, 20X and 40X
